The Trial of the CHICAGO 7 - Sorkin's Triumph

The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020)

by

Aaron Sorkin

Aaron Sorkin is a brand. His name on writing credits is enough of an invite to watch that film. That he has directed this film is icing on the cake.

A legal drama is anyway absorbing, and Sorkin and the cast make the film memorable. Frank Langella as an unfair, retarded judge stands out. Sacha Baron Cohen as Abbie Hoffman, leader of the Yippies transports the film to another level.Michael Keaton has a cameo as the former Attorney General, who takes the stand to punch holes in the theory of the Police. Eddie Redmayne and Alex Sharp are spot on with their performances.Joseph Gordon-Lewitt plays the Prosecution Counsel, and Mark Rylance as the Defense Attorney are just perfect.

This film focusses on the trial following riots that occured during the 1968 Democratic National Convention  which nominated Hubert Humphrey. Watch the film for its current relevance. This film might win some Oscars this year, who knows?
