Guftagoo - with Manav Kaul

 Guftagoo- With Manav Kaul

(Interviewer- Irfan bhai)

Manav Kaul tells his life story, and given that he has literary pretentions, tells it in a very interesting manner. Irfan draws out the best in you, and Manav needed no invite either.

He was born in Baramula, but his family was forced to shift to Hoshangabad, where he grew up as a carefree child, who did not face much pressure for studies. He took up various vocations and jobs as a child, and then became a national level swimmer and joined the SAI Stadium in Bhopal. IT was here that he watched a play by Habib Tanweer and decided upon the course of his life.

He worked with Satyadev Dubey, and later started directing plays himself. Manav cannot help talking about his writing exploits and influences like Nirmal Verma, Maxim Gorkey, Albert Camus and Vinod Shukla.

Goes without saying how much i enjoyed his work in City Lights, Kai Po Che and  sundry other films.
