1917 - A Feel-good War Film

1917 (2019)
by
Sam Mendes

Sam Mendes is a among the very best of the lot.
Here he delivers his war masterpiece which runs with consummate ease and assured steps.
1917 boasts of some exceptional camerawork and simplistic writing. Two soldiers have been directed to take a message to the front lines asking them to hold back. The film focuses on just their mission and not on the larger picture.
George McKay and Dean-Charles Chapman have done good work here and are ably supported by cameos from Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth and Mark Strong.
If 1917 reminds of any war film, its got to be Kubrick's Paths of Glory. Trenches have not looked sexier in any other film except these two.
