HAMID 2018
by
Aijaz Khan
This is a universal story which can be applied to any scene
of conflict. The film does not waste much energy upon the politics of Azadi or
Nationalistic fervour of the Forces. But set in the Vale and water bodies of
Kashmir, this film leaves everything in the hands of Hamid, the little kid,
played by Talha Arshad Reshi.
The kid's father has disappeared somewhere. The kid somehow calls 9786786786 assuming it is Allah's number . An Indian soldier answers it, and the two develop a relationship.
Rasika Duggal, the mother, is reliable as ever. This actress
never puts a foot down. Vikas Singh, who plays the Indian soldier, fits into
the role admirably.
The emotions are real, and treatment is very sensitive. That
the film does not degenerate into India-bashing or advocate the Kashmiri cause
is admirable. The child artist is a real star !
