BALA 2019

A lot of gyan poured in your ears aside, Bala is a
celebration of Ayushman’s stardom , as well as of desi comedy. Saurabh Shukla,
Seema Pahwa and Javed Jaffrey have ensured that small town aura is fully
tapped.
Bala is the story of Balmukund Shukla ,who goes bald at 25,
and predictably finds it impossible to land chicks or even to do well at his marketing job. He then
falls in love with Yummy, who is shocked at finding a wig-wearer as her
husband, and divorces him for good.
This is a film that speaks to everyone . A head full of
hair is better than one without it. Even a male chest with hair is considered
more sexy than one without it. It is what it is. Not much can be done about ‘bloody
hair’. If they start greying or vanishing, no one can reverse the change. But they
do create some mental discomfort to the person undergoing it.
Ayushman scores
again with his ‘desi lahza’ and endearing image. Bhumi Padnekar has been
painted black to suit the role she plays. This is the worst example of
blackwashing. This film must have been ridiculed for this. Why did they have to
cast a fair girl in the role of a dusky lawyer ? Yummy Gautam looks like a sun-kissed
bride. Her smile can light a million lamps. The supporting cast doesn’t pack
the punch. Vijay Raaz instead of Javed Jaffrey would have caused mayhem. But the
film works, because the problem is real, and has no solution.
