THE UBER STORY
(A documentary)
Uber was founded in 2009 by Travis Kalanik and Garrett Camp.
It provides a p2p ride sharing, ride service hailing , food delivery and
bicycle sharing services. Its heavily investing in Driver-less cars and Uber
Air. The company loses around 3 bn USD every year and is yet valued at 83 bn
USD.
Uber has fought regulators, taxi unions and competitors over
the years and somehow survived. It’s been accused of trying to skirt regulation
and sometimes even pre-empting changes. Vis-à-vis ride sharing, it entered the
markets and broke regulations rather than wait for change .Uber treats its
drivers as contractors rather than employees, and is not liable to offer them
pensions or medical cover. This is a small 44 minute ride through its decade
long journey.
