Super Deluxe 2019

Four bizzare plots. Families and individuals under strain.
Not much overlapping of scenes, settings and characters, but vague connections
through butterfly effect. The plot seems routine, but the treatment is
exquisite.
A married woman is saddled with the corpse of her ex-lover
in her marital home. A kid meets his father for the first time but realises he
has now become a woman. Some friends pool resources to watch a porn film only
to realise that the actress is the mother of one among them. The father of this
boy is a charlatan who believes Jesus saved him during Tsunami , and that he
himself possesses divine powers to heal.
Samatha as the philandering wife looks smoking hot. Fahadh
Faisal as the cuckolded husband is simply marvellous. Ramya plays the mother
who worked in a sleazy film to make money. Vijay Sethupathi is the man who has
become trans-sexual. Mysskin plays the Healer.
The most remarkable
fact about these charcters is that they are peace with the choices they have
made in life, and accept the fruits of their decisions. They are willing to
evolve , but not apologetic about what they have done.
Mindful karma breeds this kind of calm. The wife agrees her
husband must divorce her. The husband admits to having lack of fire and
understanding between the couple. The trans-sexual knows he has wronged his
wife and the kid, and is willing to make amends. The porn actress is not ashamed
of doing the film which her son ended up watching. The Healer ,when faced with
dilemma, is willing to reconsider his belief.
This fluidity of faith, and willingness to bear responsibility
for one’s actions, is what makes this film a masterpiece. The director never
seems in a hurry to reach resolution , offer explanation or arrive at a
conclusion. This is a film for the ages- one that can be savoured for
championing - maturity and understanding in relations, evolution of social norms and importance of
individual choice .
Summing up, life is full of misfortunes. Forgive and
forget. Respect and evolve. Appreciate companionship, and bloody move on !
