The Accursed Kings (Tv Miniseries) - Inspiration for GoT

The Accursed Kings 2005
(French Tv miniseries)

Between 1955 and 1977 , Maurice Druon wrote seven historical novels on the French monarchy in the 14 th century, persecution of Knight Templars , affairs of the state and the Hundred Years War between France and England. George R.R.Martin considers them as his inspiration for the Game of Thrones.
The miniseries is second successful adaptation of the novels, the first one being made in 1972.  This is the story of how the Iron King,Philip the Fair, hankering after the gold of Knight Templars executes them on false charges of blasphemy and apostasy. The Grand Master of Knight Templars cursed the King and his bloodline while being burnt at the stake. Soon after his death ,his curse begins to show its ill effects. There is also a side track of the rivalry between a duchess Mahaut and his nephew, Robert over their family lands.
There are wars, affairs, palace intrigue and bloodletting in this series which seems a little too condensed ,given that there are only five 90 minutes episodes which cover the story of 7 kings and about half a century. But it is an interesting watch, not a worthless investment of time.
