Luka Chhupi 2019

Kriti Sanon comes across as a very confident actress in
comedy after Bareilly Ki Barfi. Kartik Aryan is in love with himself, a great
quality to have if you are to become a superstar. It helps that his presence is
not displeasing. Aparshakti seems too logical (and plain looking) to gradually
develop into a star but has a subtle manner of going about his craft. Vinay
Pathak has immense control over his dialogue delivery and body language. Strangely
Pankaj Tripathy has been saddled with a slapstick role which does scant justice
to his vast talent.
This film has an excellent cast, in decent form, even some
good moments but a very convoluted plot. Sloppy idea proves to be the undoing
of this film. A clumsily named political outfit, Sanskriti Bachao Manch, headed
by Vinay Pathak raises hullabaloo against live-in relationships. But his daughter
Kriti, who falls for Kartik, wants to delay marriage and rather opts for a live–in to test waters. Contrived social and family situations develop around this
idea and the story reaches nowhere.
It is painful to remain a part of this make-believe world
of social adventure since both the bride and her groom are Brahmins, and from
the same city, who could have easily been married with the consent of their
families had they sought permission.
With better writing, this film would have made more sense.
Not that it is not a good watch, but one is always too aware of the
pointlessness of the whole drama.
