Donald J. Trump is a buffoon ,nay a
villain,because he is withdrawing troops from Syria and Afghanistan.Dick Cheney
is a rascal because he put boots on the ground in Afganistan and Iraq in the
first place.The Liberal hatred knows no balance or logic.Which is why they
stand exposed,and discredited.They are just perennial cribbers who celebrate
tokenism-a black President,a Congresswoman who wears a hijab,a female SOS who
chooses to drap her head with a shawl when she meets Arab leaders,and so on.
Dick Cheney was the power behind the throne of
George W.Bush.The latter,never taken seriously by his stern old man,somehow got
his act together and threw his hat in the ring for Presidency.But he needed
some old dog to share his ticket,and who better than Cheney,the then President
of Halliburton and ex-SOD and COS in Republican administrations.It was this man
who led the War on Terror fro behind the scenes.It is him along with Rumsfeld
and Wolfowitz who are considered as key dramatis personae of the Neocon
project.
This film is a very loserish attempt to fling
dirt at Dick.He was an alcoholic,had to drop out of Yale and was charged for
drunk driving.He could somehow survive only because of his wife Lynne,else if
Adam Mckay is to be believed ,he was a total fuck up.
Infact,Dick Cheney is such a remarkable
personality that he was sought,and requested by W. to be his VP running mate.It
was not just the fact that Dick had worked in the Nixon regime,had been the
Chief of Staff with Ford and then SOD during the Bush Sr’s Presidency.Vice
President Cheney was not an Accident of history.He reached the high office
because he was supposed to.Infact Dick had presidential ambition ,but he gave
it up in 1996 because he feared it might
bring his daughter’s lesbian preferences under media scrutiny.
If Liberals had their way,US (or any damn
country) government would exist only to finance UN ,dole out aids to third
world,military intervene but only under UN mandate,dump Israel ,champion the
Palestinian cause,appease Islamist regimes the world over and raise local taxes
to keep Middle Eastern thugs and European governments happy.
What could the US have done after 9/11 except invade
Afganistan ? Even Iraq War was important because backbone of radical Islam had
to be broken down.Agreed that IS did originate as a result,but that was because
the military interventions were not whole hearted.Obama really fucked it up
with his confused policies.
Cheney’s obsessions with Unitary Executive
Theory,US role in the world,military interventions,axis of evil and ethics of
power warrant that he be taken seriously.But the film fails him badly.He has
been portrayed as a one dimensional power hungry despot who made waterboarding
legal and torture fashionable.
The casting director managed to find a very good
Condy Rice,but Colin Powell and Bush Jr (Sam Rockwell) do not fit.But it is Steve
Carell who just kills it as Donald Rumsfeld.Firstly as a mentor and later as a
friend and a colleague,Rummy had a very role in Cheney’s political life.That
Dick’s career ultimately outshined his mentor’s is a testimonial to the fact
that there is more to the ex-VP than Adam Mckay would have us believe.
Amy Adam is the strength of the film ,as is Lynne
of Dick’s life. Steve Carell is superb as Rummy.Christian Bale might have won
the Golden Globes,but I don’t think he is a shoo-in for Oscars.The Vice is
certainly not a great biopic,but it’s a vital film.But it does scant justice to
contemporary history ,and must be seen as a petty attempt to caricaturise Dick
Cheney.
