Set in a small ,sleepy town in America,this beautiful film
explores relationships between a sister,her eight year old son and her
delinquent brother.Laura Linney ,in an Oscar nominated role,plays elder sibling
to Mark Ruffalo.Their parents had died when the kids were quite young.The film
focusses on the present where Laura,a single mother working in a local bank
juggles her parental responsibilities with her work,while Ruffalo grapples with
his legal problems
and aggressive behaviour.As the brother arrives in town for help,the
trio spend some time in each other’s company.
Linney is such a beautiful woman she lights up the screen
everytime the camera focusses on her.She has secured three Oscar nominations so
far,and this one was the first of them.Ruffalo is such a packet of energy.His
usually tentative style of dialogue
delivery is perfect for this role.Him and Casey Affleck are two actors who can
portray these roles of troubled guys
effortlessly and with such conviction .Its no wonder Kennath Lonergan cast
Casey in last year’s Manchester By The Sea,a role to which Mark wud have also done justice.
For those who like slow paced,beautiful films about human
relatioships,this is a damn good recommendation.
