Vidya balan is in a happy space. She has always been bubbly
and full of life, and it goes without saying a very powerful and influential performer
through the years. The magic is still there, despite some age and a lot of weight. The role of a housewife with dreams of
finding a gainful employment or starting
her own business is such that she can
play herself ,be noticed and pack a punch. The film had a lot more potential and
the director had proven actors in Manav kaul and Neha Dhupia to go for
broke, but he chose to play it safe. The conflicts seem contrived and family-specific,and
the tyranny of patriarchy is not fully exposed.By turning her sisters into her tormentor
–in-chief,the blow has been softened. The film works because the issues are
real.Hell, most women want to work. But to start their first job after having kids is tall order.Sulu proves it can be
done. Some people dunt need degrees or daddys to become entrepreneurs. They have
an innate, irrepressible hunger to get things done .This is one such story.I
wish though that they had gone beyond the surface ,and that the characters had
some depth and were not as flat as they turned out to be.MAnav KAul is the
actor to watch here for his ability to provide nuances to a flatly written
character. But then we know he has always been brilliant.Neha Dhupia is a lovely
presence in the film.Vidya Balan delivers her bit,and makes the film her own.
