BREAKDOWN 1997
by
Jonathan Mostow
Kurt Russell and Kathleen Quinlan are driving from Boston to San Diego in their Jeep Grand Cherokee when a bunch of malcontents kidnap the missus in Arizona desert. The husband tries everything from seeking cops' help to giving ransom but fails to secure her release. He follows the crooks to their hideout and frees his wife. Kurt Russell plays a typical tough Bollywood hubby. JT Walsh plays an unalloyed villain with deadpan expressions. The film works because of the sense of urgency and its pace.
