Pratik Gandhi and Patralekha have a very good chemistry. As Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule, they light up the screen and have given very convincing performances. There can be a lot of debate about Phule's own religion, conversion and intention, but regarding his social work, especially in the field of education, there can be no doubt. His book, Ghulamgiri, is now considered a seminal text. Yes, he was actively helped by English funding, but then who else would have subsidized female education in those times. Phule does not bedazzle but puts forth its views with restraint. I like precisely that thing about this film, besides Gandhi's performance, of course.
