Akshaye Khanna is a hotshot lawyer who defends Ajay Devgn in court by proving that the latter suffered from a split personality disorder and hence was not in his senses when he committed a cold-blooded murder. In fact, Ajay Devgn manipulated everyone into believing that he was mentally unwell. Both are in love with the same girl, Ajay obsessively so. Once he realizes that he has been played and that the accused set free was a dangerous psychopath, he tries to get the case reopened. The story is not unusual, but the film was widely lauded for wonderful performances by Ajay and Akshaye.
Devgan vs Khanna was lapped up by viewers. Ajay's sudden transformation and playacting during the trial earned him acclaim. Akshaye Khanna matched him well and would have left deeper impression but for his deliberate upper lip twist and lower jaw suspension. Urmila Matondkar does not disappoint either.
