Jack Nicholson does everything in a style. He is a wine merchant, a philandering husband, a disinterested stepfather, but above all a lying, conniving thief. He teams up with Michael Caine to steal a valuable tiara with the help of his Cuban mistress, played by Jennifer Lopez. Despite the two masters at work, the rest of the film does not hold up because of weak supporting cast. Stephen Dorff and Judy Davis are not able to step up. Then again, there are no cops closing in, no tension building up as such. Jack's character, despite loving his lifestyle and ways, displays softness while dealing with his estranged wife, friend and stepson. His humanity makes him not as hated. Caine comes across as physically stronger and meaner. But there is no doubt that this is Jack Nicholson's show all the way.
