The film, which has a damn good storyline, is a remake of some Southern film.
But it is Anil Kapoor's charisma that screams HERO and demands to be seen that makes Calcutta Mail such a good watch. At its core, CM is a film about a man looking for his child in a metropolis. That is where Kolkata comes into the picture. Through lanes and tolas, Anil Kapoor tries to find his missing boy, with some help from Rani Mukherjee and Saurabh Shukla (who plays Ghatak).
Satish Kaushik plays a Bihari don-cum-politician who had promised his daughter, Manisha Koirala, to his henchman, played by Sayaji Shinde. Anil Kapoor jumps into trouble and rescues Manisha from his clutches. They escape to hill and have a kid, but this obscurity is too good to last. Daddy comes calling and tragedy strikes. Riding on steady directorial guidance by Mishra, wonderful dialogues by Shukla and strong performances by everyone concerned, the film is a triumph.
