Afwaah is not a film, rather a cheap propaganda piece made to please the leftists, so-called liberals, jihadis, Islamopologists, and rabid anti-Hindus. This junk is produced by Anubhav Sinha and Bhushan Kumar and written and directed by Sudhir Mishra. Sinha must be the biggest and most blatant Hindu hater in Bollywood, and the product lives up to his reputation.
The film per se is not that bad. Bhumi Pednekar has given a rather strong performance. Nawazuddin Siddique, Sharib Hashmi and Sumeet Vyas have done justice to their roles. But the script is so blatantly biased, and hell bent on giving clean chit to Islamists on every single occasion and labelling Hindus as communally too-far-gone, that runs like propaganda. Come to think of it- every Muslim in the film is a victim and non-communal, every Hindu is a bloodthirsty killer. Except the lead actress, of course, because she hates 'all this'. All modern tropes that signify false victimhood are present- Love Jihad, communal politics, beef, lynching etc. You still can watch it because of the performances, but as a cinematic work, it sucks. I think this particular film signifies for me the death of Sudhir Mishra as a director.
