Russell Crowe is an investigative journalist; Rachel McAdams wants to be like him. Helen Mirren is their boss at a publication which is sinking. Ben Affleck plays a Congressman who is on a committee investigating defense contractors. One of his staffers dies in an accident under suspicious circumstances. Investigative journalism leads to the right conclusion after various twists and turns. Robin Wright plays Affleck's wife. Jason Bateman also had a small role. State of Play works as a genuine political suspense thriller because it manages to keep the audience surprised.
