INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS 2013
by
Ethan and Joel Coen
The year is 1961, and LD is in New York. Oscar Issac is a struggling country singer. His debut record did not sell. His partner has committed suicide. He sleeps on couches in his friends' homes. He has no career, no regular earning, no home, no prospects, no regular girl and no direction, so to speak. He travels to New York, doesn't get anything big and comes back. A ginger cat comes in and goes out of the play. Llewyn Davis floats in the universe of struggle. Bob Dylan arrives and makes a splash.
This is a very fine film, with a lot of cinematic value. Melancholia is the ruling emotion of this film. With nice cameos from John Goodman, Carey Mulligan and F. Murray Abraham, Oscar Issac has done a very beautiful job. Music is first rate and doesn't jar at all. ILD is slowly evolving as a classic.
