The SURFER 2024
by
Lorcan Finnegan
There is a beach, and there is a surfer. Nicolas Cage has returned from the US and wants to purchase the house that he had grew up in. He had been a surfer but had lost the verve after his father's death on the beach. He realizes that buying the house is going to be difficult. A masculine cult has taken over the beach and refuses him to go anywhere near it in the name of localism. No outsiders allowed is their policy. Cage stays put, struggles with cult, loses his psychological edge, fights with them and eventually joins the cult, to realize his dream of surfing on the beach.
The film keeps the viewer on edge with hostility and violence. Cage delivers in this role. John McMohan plays the villain- his last before he died on cancer. Cinematography is exceptional in this Australian film.
