Boardwalk Empire S01
The pilot episode of this series was directed by Martin Scorsese. It tells the story of Enoch 'Nucky' Thompson who ran a huge alcohol distribution racket in New Jersey at the time of Prohibition (1920-33).
Steve Buscemi plays a rather serious role as Nucky, and is ably supported by Michael Shannon, Michael Stuhlbarg, Michael Pitt and Shea Wingham among others. The series is not at quite the same level as The Sopranos or Peaky Blinders but is a damn good watch in itself. Nucky as a smooth operator steals the show. Al Capone also has a role to play in this story. Beautiful women and mafia, what's not to love?
