RISEN - The Last Days and post-Crucifixion of Jesus/Yeshua

Clavius is not as important a character in Jesus' story as Governor of Judea, Pontius Pilate is. It is variously suggested that he was a soldier or as is shown in the film was a Tribune of the Roman Empire. The film takes us to the last days of Jesus. Clavius oversees the end of Jesus. It is he who orders the spear to be thrust into the ribs of Yeshua.

The story takes a turn after the corpse of Jesus, kept in Roman safehouse goes missing. Some say he is seen walking again, and that life is eternal and there is pure bliss on the path of love. Amid frenetic search for Jesus, Clavius somehow begins to doubt his own pagan faith in Mars and believe in the myth and miracles of Jesus. He stumbles upon a resurrected Jesus and his followers in a secluded place and is stunned by this discovery. He had seen the man dead and had now seen the man alive. He could not reconcile these two facts which he believed to be true.

Clavius follows Jesus' followers to Galilee where he had promised to meet them. Pontius believes that Clavius had become a traitor. But Clavius' quest is sincere. He could not have remained the same after watching a dead man walking and performing miracles. He was converted to the path of love.

This is a well-made film with some good acting by Jospeh Fiennes. The subject matter is dealt in a very lucid fashion without excess sentimentality or avoidable depiction of brutality. This is a damn good film that makes a lot of sense and communicates well the message and the story of the last days of Yeshua.
