Padmini has five sisters and a brother (Rajesh Khanna) studying in medical college. Her widowed mother finds it difficult to raise the family, so she works as house-help to support the family. She loves a boy, played by Feroz Khan, but gets married to much older Pran, who has a family of his own including six kids, a mother, a younger brother and a sister. Pran is desperate to get married and enjoy with a young wife. Padmini's character agrees to marry Pran's if he could take care of Padmini's family and pay her brother's fees.
Things do not go as planned, but ultimately everything falls into place. Pran is first rate in this remake of a Tamil film.
