Madaari - Irrfan as a Vigilante Dad

 MADAARI 2016

If Irrfan is playing a role, be sure that he is breathing life into it. When he lived a role, it became watchable, since every living person, his life and dilemmas are immensely watchable. That was the power of Irrfan. Madaari is a very weak film featuring two damn good actors, Jimmy Shergill being the other one. Jimmy is in his elements as a specialist cop, giving out 'official' vibes of a man-in-business. But around them, the plot is weak, and ensemble cast has nothing much to do. Irrfan's chemistry with the young boy he kidnaps is first rate. You know that Stockholm would strike because hell, even you side withe the kidnapper here. Incredulous dramatic elements are stuffed in the climax which kill the film, and yet every fan of the great Khan shall watch this again and again as a mark of tribute. Long live Irrfan!

Is is only after watching this film and while reading about it that I realized that Mr. Kamat is also no more. He died of cirrhosis and Covid related complications in 2020. Kamat had made some good films like Dombivili Fast, Mumbai Meri Jaan, Drishyam and Force. He was all of 50.
