YAARA - Tigmanshu's Weakest Film?

 YAARA (2020)

Yaara is the official remake of A GANG STORY (2011), in which a gang reunites to save a friend arrested by cops. Twenty years back, the gang of four- Vidyut Jamwal, Amit Sadh, Vijay Varma and Kenny Basumatary, used to smuggle gold and liquor, and sell arms to various outfits, when they were arrested along with Naxalites.

The reunion does not turn out to be a happy one. The one nabbed by cops in present time had been away for 20 years, but the other three had kept in touch. Every single actor had done well, as have Ankur Vikal, Sanjay Mishra and Shruti Hassan, and yet the film never quite reaches the heights one expected. The screenplay does not let the film flow smoothly. Better editing should have struck off at least 30 minutes from runtime. The Naxal angle, especially showing off Shruti in cotton saris in Jehanabad, was totally unnecessary. The film never makes you feel bad, but never soars. That is what is very disappointing. It could have been a wonderful film, but it does not turn out to be one.
