Karsandas Mulji and Yadunath Maharaj are historical figures. While the latter was a Vaishnava saint who was revered by millions, Karsandas was a Vaishnava himself. When Karsan realizes that Yadunath or JJ was exploiting females in the name of receiving Charan Seva, he opposed him tooth and nail. He began writing against JJ in Satya Prakash, his journal, but was soon sued for libel by the guru. The story is based upon the 1862 libel case decided by Bombay Supreme Court.

Followers of Vallabhkul Sampradaya protested against this film, but there is nothing to suggest disrespect towards the deity. Hindus should not take this offensive stance. We must not compete with other faiths who are quick to take offense. The film celebrates a case which provided fillip to women rights, and opposing it makes us look petty.

Jaideep Ahlawat sparkles in the film as JJ. He just steals the show. Junaid Khan has Karsan has done very well for a debutant, and it is to his credit that even against Jaideep's peak, he manages to be seen. Maharaj is a damn well-made flick, and one which must be watched for Jaideep.
