Shivaji was stuck in the fort of Panhalgarh, surrounded by the forces of Sidhi Jauhar and Sidhi Masud, sent by Bijapur Adil Shahi. He left the fort in the dark, and trekked to Vishalgarh, 22 miles away, but was pursued by the Bijapuri forces. On the foothills of Vishalgarh was fought the Battle of Pawan Khind in 1660, and is remembered for the heroic fight put up by Baji Prabu Deshpande and his troops, who lost their lives in trying to defend Raje.
The film is high on drama and action, and enlivens a famous episode of the Swaraj. Hats off to Digpal Lanjekar for making this film. This is the third film in the Maratha series.
I have seen three Shivajis so far- Chinmay Mandlekar (here), Sharad Kelkar (Tanaji) and Salim Ghouse (Bharat Ek Khoj) and I must say Chinmay fills the big shoes well.
