DRISHYAM 2 (2021)

Drishyam was a great film. Drishyam 2 is a greater sequel.
If Drishyam is sometimes labelled as an adaptation of The Devotion of Suspect X, Drishyam 2 reaches the next level.
D2 is top class as a police procedural, an investigation manual, a standalone thriller and a worthy sequel to a great film. The accused family is forever anxious and full of guilt. But the patriarch, Mohanlal, is a man of different mettle. Rather than fretting over what shall happen, he prepares for the day when police shall come knocking. He readies himself for the day of reckoning. And when the time comes, he delivers a crushing blow to the Department that takes wind out of their sails.
Jeetu Joseph has done a wonderful job as the director. But it is the incomparable Mohanlal who provides the film with the necessary gravitas with his portrayal of Georgekutty. The face is always calm; body language gives nothing away. The cops do not catch him off guard. It is not they who keep eyes upon him, rather he who observes the Department. What a climax! What astounding triumph! The victory of filmmaking!
Mohanlal Vishwanathan take a bow, Sir. You are the best.
