MASHAAL 1984
by
Yash Chopra
A young Anil Kapoor manages to hold his own against the veteran Dilip Kumar.
Dilip Vs Amrish Puri is the central axis on which the film turns.
A journalist becomes a mafiosi, while picking an orphan from the street and making a journalist out of him. The Mashaal is passed from one hand to the other. The fire keeps raging.
Dilip Kumar's dialogue delivery is first rate. AK is outstanding and was justly awarded the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor. Saeed Jaffrey, Mohan Agashe, Rati Agnihotri, Madan Puri, Waheeda, Gulshan Grover and Aloke Nath have short but important roles.
Mashaal is a classic. It might not have been very tightly written, but acting carries it through.
